The EAIE Conference and Exhibition is the largest international higher education conference in Europe, attracting thousands of professionals from around the world. The annual event serves as a platform for the higher education community, bringing the global sector together in one place each year – a true one-stop shop for learning, networking and inspiration.

Through 240+ cutting-edge sessions and activities, in-depth workshops, an impressive showcase of over 250+ exhibition stands and a diverse array of networking events, the EAIE Conference gives participants the opportunity to enhance their expertise, explore current trends in higher education and establish partnerships with institutions from around the world.

The EAIE Conference and Exhibition is a must-attend event for many of us working in international higher education. I like to think of it as an agora, a space for discussion and debate open to all voices and a marketplace for nurturing and exploring partnerships. A vibrant and inspiring crossroad for European and global colleagues to meet, share and create new opportunities.

Conference theme: GO-create

A play on words from the term ‘co-create,’ this theme inspires us to be creative together in pursuing the future of international higher education. It is a call to action that encompasses all types of creative activities in the way we work with students and other key stakeholders, enrich international and intercultural learning experiences, strengthen partnerships and more.

GO-create also connects with the heart of Gothenburg itself, not only because of the portmanteau of Gothenburg and co-create but also because of Gothenburg’s reputation for thinking differently and creating ground-breaking sustainable designs. Participants will be inspired to examine key topics through a new lens and GO-create bold new solutions.

Sustainable initiatives at the conference

At the EAIE, we want to contribute to a clean future by choosing, whenever possible, sustainable and green venues, suppliers and products. The EAIE Conference and Exhibition has an impact on the environment, but this is also where we can make the biggest difference. Here’s what we do to support this goal:

Work with sustainable venues

The Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre (Svenska Mässan) is committed to sustainability, using wind power, web-based chemical systems, climate compensation, several ISO certificates and more.

Embrace fair trade and sustainable conference items

  • Provide biodegradable reusable coffee cups
  • Use ecological printing paper
  • Encourage reusable water bottles and provide water stations around the venue
  • Cooperate with Township, a company that produces the conference tote bag and supports female entrepreneurship in South Africa

Encourage participants to make greener choices

  • Promote train travel in our communications with participants and encourage reducing CO2 emissions with CANIE.
  • Offer participants an ‘I travelled green’ sticker, both digitally and in-person to show they chose to travel sustainably.
  • Share the #EAIEgreengoals hashtag and encourage participants to use it to spread the word about their own actions.
  • Teach participants about sustainable practices at our dedicated Sustainability Corner at the conference.
  • Organise a Netwalking activity in collaboration with local non-profits where participants spend afternoon of giving back through clean-up activities in the host city.

Examples of sessions on sustainability in international education

  • Co-creating impact: Societal engagement for the greater good
  • Stepping up support for green student mobility
  • Saving the planet, one pillow at a time
  • From classroom to global stage: A student-led mock COP for fair trade and climate justice

Campus Experiences

We collaborate with local universities and organise campus visits to highlight the host country’s and region’s education system. See more here.
