A call for a stronger Erasmus+ Programme 2028 – 2034
Erasmus+ and its core actions should continue to prioritise learning mobility and institutional cooperation. Together with 15 other organisations, the EAIE is calling for an Erasmus+ programme that continues to play a central role in developing the European Education Area and the Union of Skills, while contributing to the personal, educational and professional development of individuals. The programme must continue to fund mobility and transnational cooperation as its primary mission, with a strong emphasis on quality and inclusiveness.
After the EAIE’s support in the call for an increase to the Erasmus+ budget, we are now, together with our partners, inviting changes to the Erasmus+ 2028 — 2034 regulation.
We are extremely grateful for all the work the European Commission has put into developing a proposal that aims to meet the needs of learners and institutions across Europe. However, together, we have identified several adjustments that could further strengthen the proposal.
Erasmus+ and its core actions should continue to prioritise learning mobility and institutional cooperation. While new initiatives are important to ensure the programme remains innovative and competitive, it is equally essential to remember the Erasmus+ programme's foundational purpose.
The amendments are set out in full below and address the following:
-
The programme’s objectives
-
Budget allocation for the higher education sector
-
Committee procedure
-
Erasmus+ scholarships in strategic educational fields
-
Synergies with other EU funding sources
-
Third countries associated to the programme
-
International dimension
-
Students and staff at risk
The EAIE is constantly striving to enhance internationalisation in higher education, and Erasmus+ remains one of the most important tools we have to achieve this. A stronger Erasmus+ programme means not only greater support for students and professionals across the sector, but also a renewed opportunity to build bridges and strengthen Europe’s capacity to learn, collaborate and innovate together. That is something we must actively work towards now.
