Overwhelm is not a personal failing. It is a perfectly normal response to an abnormal amount of pressure. In a world where demands are high and pushing through is often the norm, it can feel impossible to admit when you are struggling. Yet unchecked overwhelm does not just affect your physical and mental well-being. It also affects your decisions, your relationships, your productivity and the people you lead. This honest, practical workshop explores the causes of overwhelm in everyday life, how it shows up differently for each of us and what genuinely helps. We will look at how to protect your energy, manage competing demands and lead yourself well, so that you can show up fully for the people and work that matter most.

The world is not slowing down, and neither are the demands on today’s leaders. Budget pressures, restructuring, geopolitical uncertainty and shifting team dynamics can all make inclusion feel like a ‘nice to have’ rather than a non-negotiable.  This energising, practical session explores what it means to lead inclusively when you are stretched, stressed and navigating the unexpected. We will look at how pressure and stress can quietly shape our decisions and behaviours, and share practical tools to help you protect psychological safety, maintain trust and lead with clarity, even when everything around you feels uncertain. You will leave with a toolkit of actionable strategies designed for the messy, complicated and very human reality of leadership today.

This poster invites you to rethink how immersive technologies such as virtual reality and avatar-based virtual worlds can enrich international higher education, connecting people in teaching, learning and recruitment. Drawing on projects by RWTH Aachen University and the German Academic Exchange Service, it challenges conventional approaches to visibility and connection in education and marketing. You can explore the virtual reality environments live using our headsets.

Many of the 60+ European university alliances collaborate with non-European partners, most with African institutions. The CIVIS alliance was one of the first and stands for a comprehensive approach to such partnerships, characterised by a relatively small set of partners from Africa and the ambition to collaborate across all activity areas. African institutions started as strategic partners but since 2024 have been associate members. This poster shares some key learnings from the CIVIS experience.

Seventeen global health leaders in seven countries participated in the GlobalUp programme pilot – an intercultural development initiative led by Nuvance, now part of Northwell Health. Through asynchronous online modules and participation in live, virtual, facilitated dialogue sessions, participants gained cultural humility and grew global competence as measured by the Intercultural Development Inventory, empowering more ethical, equity-minded educational partnerships in global health.

This poster shows how the UK Council for International Student Affairs transformed the #WeAreInternational Awards 2025 from recognition into sector change. Alongside showcasing winners, we map how case studies fed into our policy positions, member guidance, advocacy with government and partners, and practical tools for institutions. You will leave with evidence, templates and a roadmap to run awards and to turn stories into impact.

INSSPIRE is an Erasmus+ project that aims to stimulate evidence-based inclusive education for food systems and climate change through building intra-university capacity, strengthening university–community collaboration and enhancing inter-university partnership. This poster presents the INSSPIRE Collaborative Online International Learning implementation manual, co-created with institutions across sub-Saharan East Africa.

This poster explores how the European university alliances are defined by different connecting themes. Many are built around subject fields or common themes such as geography and shared missions. In this landscape, STEM subjects, for example, are very well represented. Only one alliance is built around social sciences and humanities. What does this say about how Europe values these disciplines? What might be lost when they are underrepresented? How can the alliances restore balance and rhythm?

The Mobstacles team works as a unique link between higher education institutions and government parties, identifying and addressing obstacles to student mobility, both incoming and outgoing. We are not only working within a national context in the Netherlands but also building a European network. In this poster session, we will showcase the unique structure in which we work and why this is so effective, to inspire other countries to adopt elements of this system.

How can higher education institutions turn cultural diversity into a strength? At Artevelde University of Applied Sciences, diversity is not only a reality – it's a powerful asset. Yet it also presents challenges in the classroom and the workplace. To support staff in addressing these complexities, we developed an intercultural compass: an engaging intranet webpage and online learning pathway designed to foster intercultural awareness and inclusive practices across our institution.

Most reports on international students focus on tuition fees. But what happens after graduation? This panel session will share research tracking over 500,000 international graduates. Many stay and work in host countries, filling critical jobs. Others return home or move to new countries. We'll share findings on where graduates work, what jobs they do, which industries employ them and how they move between countries.
