Join an interactive introduction to the most important aspects of the field of evaluation and recognition of foreign credentials for newcomers.
If you are a newcomer to the field of credential evaluation and recognition, this course will introduce key aspects of the field such as requirements regarding the application file, the criteria and procedures used as advocated by the Lisbon Recognition Convention; where you can find accurate, up-to-date information about other education systems; the importance of accreditation, ways to combat fraud and how to develop a step-by-step coherent evaluation methodology.
Led by experienced trainers Marijke Blom-Westrik and Kristina Sutkutė, the course is specially designed to provide you with the tools to build a coherent credential evaluation methodology at your institution. This course comprises six hours of face-to-face learning and approximately two hours of self-guided study to be completed before the final learning session.
As a participant, you will benefit from a hands-on approach, the use of cases from daily practice, a chance to share information and experiences with your peers, and the extensive knowledge and expertise of the presenters. During the course theory will alternate with practice and the training will be interactive using polls and breakout rooms for case discussions.

This beginner's course will help all university staff responsible for evaluating foreign credentials (for access to bachelor, master or doctorate programs), as well as study abroad advisers and recruitment officers, approach the issue of credential evaluation and recognition with confidence. Much of the focus during the course will be on hands-on learning and some preparatory reading will be requested in advance.

Senior Credential Evaluator, Nuffic
Marijke Blom-Westrik is Senior Credential Evaluator at Nuffic. Marijke has over 14 years of experience in the field of international recognition. Her main responsibilities at Nuffic include the design and provision of training courses in the field of credential evaluation, international recognition, and the Chinese educational system as well as the evaluation of foreign credentials. Marijke has acted as trainer and speaker for several sessions and workshops, including those offered by the EAIE and Nuffic. Marijke obtained a Master’s degree in Chinese language and culture from the University of Leiden in the Netherlands and is an expert in the Chinese educational system.
Advisor, Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education
Kristina Sutkute is an advisor at the Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education in Lithuania. Her main roles include the development and streamlining of recognition policy and processes, mentoring of credential evaluators, and engagement with higher education institutions. Kristina has over a decade of experience in working with recognition and comparative analysis of systems of education. Her current responsibilities are increasingly focused on innovation and policy development in the field.
As a credential evaluator and trainer, she has experience in developing and sharing good practices in recognition as well as extensive knowledge of education systems. She has contributed to the development of numerous European and national tools and guidelines. Kristina has delivered training sessions for higher education institutions, acted as a speaker in various events and conferences. She holds a Master degree in International Relations from Vytautas Magnus University with a semester abroad at Aarhus University.
