Join an interactive introduction to the most important aspects of the field of evaluation and recognition of foreign credentials for newcomers.
If you are a newcomer to the field of credential evaluation and recognition, this course will introduce key aspects of the field such as requirements regarding the application file, the criteria and procedures used as advocated by the Lisbon Recognition Convention; where you can find accurate, up-to-date information about other education systems; the importance of accreditation, ways to combat fraud and how to develop a step-by-step coherent evaluation methodology.
Led by experienced trainers Cecilia George and Majka Drewitz, the course is specially designed to provide you with the tools to build a coherent credential evaluation methodology at your institution. This course comprises six hours of face-to-face learning and approximately two hours of self-guided study to be completed before the final learning session.
As a participant, you will benefit from a hands-on approach, the use of cases from daily practice, a chance to share information and experiences with your peers, and the extensive knowledge and expertise of the presenters. During the course theory will alternate with practice and the training will be interactive using polls and breakout rooms for case discussions.

This beginner's course will help all university staff responsible for evaluating foreign credentials (for access to bachelor, master or doctorate programs), as well as study abroad advisers and recruitment officers, approach the issue of credential evaluation and recognition with confidence. Much of the focus during the course will be on hands-on learning and some preparatory reading will be requested in advance.

Cecilia George has been working with recognition of foreign qualifications for over 20 years, including 15 years at the European Network of Information Centres (ENIC-NARIC) Sweden. Cecilia's fields of expertise are recognition methodology, support to higher education institutions and automatic recognition, as well as the systems of education in Anglophone Africa and Northwestern Europe. She has been involved in working groups in the Bologna process on Lisbon Recognition Convention implementation and Automatic recognition and was elected member of the NARIC Advisory Board 2019-2023. Cecilia has been a speaker at Taicep conferences and at different national and international occasions. She has been active within the EAIE Admission and Recognition stream as a speaker at conferences and trainer at workshops and the EAIE Academy.

Majka Drewitz is a Senior Manager of Research and Knowledge Evaluation at Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE). She studied English at the University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poland, and Linguistics at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. Majka’s areas of interest include research, selected education systems (Europe, former USSR, Middle East, Latin America) and fraud detection. In 2005, Majka authored ECE Insights: Evaluation Tools for Russian Credentials, and in 2011 co-authored ECE’s Education in the Commonwealth Caribbean series chapters on the British Virgin Islands, Trinidad and Tobago, and nursing education. Majka is an experienced presenter and the lead trainer on document fraud and forensics at ECE. She has also authored a number of Country Charts and Keys which can be referenced on the ECE® Connection, a resource tools platform for educational credential evaluators worldwide.
