Important news about EAIE Gothenburg 2021

2021 Gothenburg important update Gothenburg 2021

As we move past the one-year mark of the pandemic, there are some signs of hope that we are turning the corner towards recovery. Our sights remain set on a future when we can convene again in person, but the path is more winding than expected. Regrettably, due to the continued uncertainties surrounding travel and large-scale events, the EAIE Board, endorsed by the General Council, has reluctantly made the decision that the Annual Conference and Exhibition to be held in Gothenburg, Sweden from 07–10 September 2021 cannot go ahead as planned.

Ensuring the health and safety of all and creating an inclusive event that all higher education professionals from around the globe can join is our priority. Building on the success of the 2020 Community Exchange, the EAIE is excited to deliver a dynamic virtual event again this year. The 2021 EAIE Community Exchange: virtual conference and exhibition will take place 28 September–01 October.

This year’s theme, ‘Bolder. Braver. Go.’ is not only a call to embrace bold ideas that will result in tangible action, but also a reminder that the time for change is now. It invites people to think about the bolder and braver ways forward in international education, but also around broader concepts such as society, governance, the environment and much more. In response to the need for a more flexible, informal space to connect, the online conference platform will open prior to the event, so that participants will have ample opportunity to meet with others and set up meetings. Over the course of the four-day event, participants can expect high-quality content, inspirational keynote speakers and an expanded variety of virtual networking moments.

As an organisation, our goal is to continue supporting you in making meaningful connections and sustaining partnerships throughout these uncertain times and beyond. We are encouraged about the innovative ways technology can bring us together virtually and drive us forward. In the lead-up to the virtual conference, you will have a chance to try out some of the networking ideas in development and help us trial various formats.

As uncertain as the near-future may be, there is a bright Southern European light at the end of the tunnel – we cannot wait to see you in person again at the 2022 EAIE Conference and Exhibition in Barcelona! Until then, we are looking forward to embarking on a virtual learning and networking journey with you during the 2021 Community Exchange.

Registration for the event will open at the end of May. Make sure you save the date for 28 September–01 October!
