4 ways filling in the EAIE Barometer survey can impact your role
For more than a decade, the EAIE Barometer has been one of the sector’s clearest windows into what internationalisation really looks like on the ground. Launched in 2014 as a practitioner‑focused research initiative, it has grown into a trusted resource capturing the lived realities shaping international higher education across the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). Its legacy isn’t just historical. Its data has helped professionals in the sector understand how the landscape is evolving and where their own work fits within it.
The fourth edition of the EAIE Barometer survey is now open with the main report due in spring 2027. Your perspective can help write the next chapter. Here are four ways taking part can help you in your own role.
1. Equip yourself with a bird’s-eye overview of the sector
One of the Barometer’s greatest strengths is capturing how IHE professionals across the EHEA actually feel in today’s fast‑shifting environment. By examining frontline views on professional roles, institutional strategies, organisational structures and emerging challenges, it offers an authentic bird’s-eye view of sector trends in one definitive snapshot. This kind of high‑level overview is invaluable. By completing the survey, you’re not only contributing your piece of the puzzle; you’re also helping shape a resource that others can learn from. Your experience becomes part of a collective insight that strengthens the entire community.
2. Drive real change, backed by evidence
As Europe’s largest and most geographically representative practitioner‑focused study, the EAIE Barometer gives professionals across the EHEA the chance to share their insights and concerns. Every response is analysed responsibly, so respondents can speak openly about what is working, what is challenging and where change is needed. The resulting data can help you make the case for change or optimisation, based not on instinct alone, but on an honest picture drawn from colleagues across Europe: people working directly in the field and facing many of the same pressures you do.
3. Spot the shifts that shape the future
Published approximately every three years, the Barometer offers a rare longitudinal view of the sector, letting you track how priorities, pressures and opportunities shift across cycles rather than in isolated moments. Beyond EHEA-level trends, you can also dive deeper into regional or national results. The data collected through the third edition produced a main report, six spin-off reports, and 29 individual country presentations. In a field this fast-moving, spotting certain trends or shifts early matters and the EAIE team is happy to explore with institutions and organisations how the collected data can be most useful.
4. Unlock meaningful rewards for your contribution
As a respondent, you will gain access to exclusive EAIE prize draws designed to support your own professional growth. Prizes include a fee waiver for the 2027 EAIE Conference and Exhibition in Lisbon, an invitation to the EAIE President’s Reception, a free EAIE membership for 2027, and a training fee waiver of your choice. We've announced the first winners and would like to extend a warm congratulations to them, with more rounds to come. Your insights could even place you at next year’s conference alongside your colleagues, shaping the conversations that move our field forward.
The EAIE Barometer survey closes on 13 November. If you know colleagues whose perspectives deserve to be heard, please encourage them to take part too. Every voice adds depth, to a clearer, more representative picture of the field we work in every day.
