Amy Fishburn

I am Amy Fishburn and I have been at Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane (AUI) Morocco for 22 years, where I opened the Office of International Programs. Responsible with senior officers to cultivate university relationships around the world, I am accountable to manage and sustain these through mobility programmes and other forms of collaboration that enhance the impact of internationalisation. Currently I am serving as a board member of the African Network for Internationalization of Education (ANIE). I served in NAFSA leadership for two years in an appointed position. A member of the EAIE for eight years and with my considerable experience working with colleagues around the world, I have seen that there is still a limited understanding on how to work effectively in the context of higher education in North Africa specifically and across other countries in Africa. I am convinced that the equitable and effective advancement of international education lies with the promotion and meeting the challenges of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) together as universities and each in our own context. This approach to eventually replace the traditional northern understanding of knowledge, resources, and management of collaboration in a North–South dynamics in of development programmes or projects.
