Are you currently enrolled in a doctoral programme, such as a PhD, DBA or EdD, focused on internationalisation in higher education? Are you thinking about starting one? Whether you are a current doctoral student or candidate, or considering this path, join us for an informal, informative and encouraging peer-to-peer conversation about the doctoral journey – how to get started, what to expect and how members of our community are navigating it.

Peer mentorship can be a powerful support mechanism for early-career professionals and female leaders in international higher education. This session will explore how mentorship circles foster a sense of belonging, shared problem solving and collaborative leadership development. Join our circle as we draw on personal experiences and collective insights to share inspiring practices to create, cultivate and nurture these communities.

Let's talk about Euraxess centres. Drawing on examples in France and Germany, we will discuss how these structures effectively support the international mobility of PhD students and researchers. Together, we will explore the services they offer, their coordination at the national level and the added value of a collaborative European approach. It will therefore be a bottom-up discussion, focusing on concrete actions and initiatives that strengthen research support across borders.

To stay relevant, higher education requires revolutions. But who has the vision to lead them? The scholar–practitioner is the crucial change agent with the dual vision to lead: critiquing the system while working within it. Scholar–practitioners, current and future, are invited to this fishbowl session to reflect on their dual identity, analyse the sacrifices and rewards of their journey and set intentions to leverage their dual lens for revolutionary impact.

Health challenges can deeply affect professional identity, relationships and expectations at work. This peer reflection session will create a supportive space to explore how to navigate such moments. Through guided questions, you will reflect on disclosure versus privacy, changing workplace dynamics and how to move forward without losing your sense of self. We will highlight how peer support and professional networks can provide strength, perspective and hope.

But what does it really take to feel at home when studying or working in the UK? From navigating British communication styles and humour to understanding expectations in university life, the UK offers a distinctive academic and cultural environment – one that has also been evolving in the context of Brexit and its implications for international students and staff. Join this campfire session to hear from both a British colleague and a colleague who has moved to the UK, as they share their perspectives on (adapting to) life in Britain. Together, they will offer practical insights and personal experiences to help you confidently find your place in the UK context.

Instead of typing keywords into Google, many now ask AI tools questions such as: "What's the best summer school in Europe in 2026?" This campfire session will invite you to compare how your institutions appear in AI-generated answers and discuss practical ways to adapt content strategies.

We’re familiar with the trends, theories and policies within our sector, but how often do we ask students about their thoughts on the future of internationalisation? Now is your chance! Join this campfire and gain new insights into the thoughts and experiences of international students.

This campfire session will explore how to build staff capacity for Internationalisation at Home and Internationalisation of the Curriculum. Can capacity building, professional development and stakeholder engagement truly enable academic and non-academic staff to embed global perspectives in their teaching and practice, or are such efforts still shaped by rhetoric and limitations? Drawing on insights from Slovenia, the Balkans, Ireland and India, we will discuss ways to connect strategy and practice.

Given the heightened scrutiny worldwide around the use and conduct of recruitment agents, the issue of agent quality management is becoming increasingly vital. This session will build on previous discussions, giving you the opportunity to learn from experts about the different considerations and stages in agent management and compliance. You will also be encouraged to share your own experiences and tips on the subject in a fishbowl format.

This campfire session will explore inclusive leadership in international education through the lens of the employee life cycle, from recruitment to retention and progression. We will examine structural barriers affecting diverse professionals, particularly in accessing leadership roles, and highlight gaps in current talent development practices. The aim is to foster shared understanding and identify actionable steps to strengthen diversity in leadership across the sector.

This session will address the challenges faced by international students with families, highlighting the need for targeted communication and cooperation to support inclusion by creating welcoming environments. After a data-based introduction to the current situation, in this interactive session we will discuss experiences, share best practices and find a new rhythm to enhance academic success and ensure these underrepresented students with families feel valued and included.

With real-world examples and participant feedback, we will uncover how structured design, immersive learning and focused engagement foster language learning, intercultural skills and personal growth.
