John is an emeritus professor and an international consultant in higher education strategy and management. Prior to his current roles, he was Pro Vice Chancellor at both Anglia Ruskin (UK) and La Trobe (Australia) Universities and Dean of the Business School and Graduate School at Anglia Ruskin. He was also a visiting professor at the University of Bath (UK). John was one of the earliest professors of higher education management in Europe and has published extensively, particularly in the areas of strategic planning, universities and their regions, the entrepreneurial university, financial reduction, globalisation, internationalisation and quality assurance. He has been a consultant with governments, higher education agencies and universities in some 40 countries, as well as with the OECD, UNESCO, the World Bank, the European Universities Association and Salzburg Global Seminar in the above thematic areas, notably international and research strategy, and he co-authored the Internationalisation Quality Review process for the OECD-ACA. John has an undergraduate degree in geography and international politics and a postgraduate degree in education from the University of Wales (UK).
