Alenka Flander

Alenka is Director of the Centre of the Republic of Slovenia for Mobility and European Educational and Training Programmes (CMEPIUS), the leading Slovene institution in international cooperation in higher education and training, and a member of the EAIE Knowledge Development Task Force. While earning her Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and Doctorate degree in political science from the University of Ljubljana, she studied and worked abroad in several European countries. She has spent some of her more than 15 years in the field of international cooperation as a visiting lecturer at Stanford University in the USA and at their Overseas Studies Centre in Berlin and delivering invited talks at Humboldt University Berlin and at International Education of Students conferences. Her research is primarily focused on systems, institutions and reform processes in higher education; in the areas of internationalisation, governance and conditions of academic work; monitoring European programmes’ impact on the internationalisation of higher education; and on employers’ views of and the employability potential of international students. Alenka is a member of several EU expert groups on education and belonged to the Bologna Follow-Up Group working group on internationalisation and mobility.
