Intercultural competence – the gold-standard learning outcome of international education since the war ended in 1945 – increases in both conceptual elegance and societal impact when it integrates the focus, purpose and mood of the eco-literate mindset. In the harsh light of our Earth crisis, this session reappraises the intercultural competence construct, critically assesses its wins and losses and explores how it can be empowered by eco-literacy and deep-green ethics.
