Session 09.16

International students and their sense of belonging: How can we empower staff to support them?

How do international students cope with being immersed in a new environment, and how can staff feel empowered and be given the right tools to support them? This campfire session will focus on these students’ sense of belonging and displacement, considering cultural, social and personal issues such as accessibility, diversity, inclusion and the divide between the Global North and the Global South. We will explore a ‘blue-sky thinking’ technique, case studies and examples of best practice.
