Japan’s Shinkansen bullet train is renowned not only for hyperspeed but also for absolute safety. There has been no fatality in 59 years of operation. Its groundbreaking technology has its origins in forced engineering under dictatorship in World War II. This poster illustrates how interdisciplinary teaching methods, combining engineering with social science, can help to nurture a mindset among future engineers of applying their technical expertise solely for peaceful and democratic purposes.
