A call for a stronger Erasmus+ budget

In a joint statement, the EAIE and partners from across the European higher education sector call on policy-makers to ensure an allocation of at least €60 billion for Erasmus Plus in the EU’s 2028-2034 budget.

Erasmus+ is one of the EU’s greatest success stories. For decades, it has transformed lives and built bridges across Europe and beyond. Yet, at a time when the Erasmus+ Programme is becoming more ambitious, with new initiatives and strengthened existing actions, the proposed budget falls short of what is needed to realise its full potential.

Investing in international education is not a cost, it is a long-term investment in a more resilient, competitive and united Europe, and an important building block for the realisation of the Union of Skills. From our perspective, the time to invest in Erasmus+ and build on the programme’s proven effectiveness is now.

That is why the EAIE, together with sixteen partner organisations, representing millions of students and thousands of higher education professionals and institutions, has published a joint statement calling on EU policy-makers to ensure that at least €60 billion is allocated to Erasmus+ in the next MFF.
