This workshop will explore how artificial intelligence can foster innovation in higher education while supporting the mission of international relations offices in promoting mobility, inclusion and intercultural understanding. It will emphasise responsible, ethical and human-centred AI use, showing how technology can enhance the integration and well-being of international students and staff while strengthening university cooperation worldwide.

Learning outcomes

• Gain insights into ethical and responsible AI use;

This workshop is targeted at professionals working in International Relations Offices, mobility programmes, recruitment and student support offices, as well as educators and HR and career advice administrators who want to use AI to support inclusion, intercultural understanding, and ethical innovation in higher education.

💡 Strategic partnerships | Diversity, equity and inclusion

Despite the widely recognised need for transformative collaborations such as the European university alliances, many higher education institutions struggle to monitor and assess the impact of strategic partnerships. In these transformative change processes, the critical role of diversity is often overlooked. This workshop will address two essential questions for strategic partnerships: how to work effectively with institutional diversity; and how to create, monitor and assess impact. It has been designed as an impact clinic grounded in change methodology to provide a structured, highly interactive and inclusive environment. You will bring in your specific challenges to receive a tailor-made diagnosis and treatment plan.

Learning outcomes

• Develop a better understanding of challenges and underlying tensions within strategic partners;
• Learn how to develop a tailor-made diagnosis and impact process plan to work with institutional diversity and create, monitor and assess impact;
• Take away peer feedback, new trusted networks, actionable guidelines, multiple resources and a first draft of an impact process plan.

Target audience
This workshop is targeted at staff working within strategic partnerships, such as European Universities or global alliances, who have at least five years of experience in higher education and an interest in impact assessment and diversity matters. It is relevant for academic and non-academic staff in a range of roles. The workshop will benefit from a diverse mix of stakeholder roles and levels.

💡 Collaborative degree programmes | Student exchange and study abroad

Joint programmes have been a cornerstone of the internationalisation of European higher education institutions over the past two decades. With Erasmus Mundus now open to non-European universities as full degree-awarding partners, and the joint European degree initiative extending beyond Europe, joint programmes are gaining unprecedented global relevance. These developments require fresh perspectives, innovative approaches and practical adjustments. This workshop will foster collective reflection by sharing concrete examples of successful practices and lessons learned from challenges encountered in the design and implementation of joint programmes with global partners.

Learning outcomes

• Get practical guidance on available and transferable solutions to the most common barriers and criticalities;
• Understand the regulatory and operational conditions for the inclusion of non-EU universities in joint programmes;
•  Reflect critically and collaboratively on how institutional and partnership dynamics can be adapted to support globally relevant joint programmes.

This workshop is targeted at International Relations Officers, programme directors, Vice-Rectors, Vice-Presidents, and Associate Deans for internationalisation.

We invite the EAIE community to continue and deepen the discussion on the future of international research cooperation under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions and Horizon Europe. This session will cover the main cooperation opportunities in the current MSCA programme and possible changes after 2027, supported by practical examples from MSCA-funded projects and beneficiaries' feedback. Special attention will be put on MSCA's international dimension, which is one of the programme's key features.

Please note, this event is tailored for individuals under 30 to ensure a networking experience with contacts in similar career stages. All participants have additional networking sessions earlier in the day at 13:30 and 15:00.

This poster explores how the European university alliances are defined by different connecting themes. Many are built around subject fields or common themes such as geography and shared missions. In this landscape, STEM subjects, for example, are very well represented. Only one alliance is built around social sciences and humanities. What does this say about how Europe values these disciplines? What might be lost when they are underrepresented? How can the alliances restore balance and rhythm?

How can partnerships sustain higher education through crises? This session will bring together the Lebanese American University, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and Freie Universität Berlin to share lessons from leading through war and instability. Presenters will explore how trust, empathy and flexible Erasmus+ cooperation can preserve mobility and academic engagement in times of disruption.

Erasmuscentro, created in 2011 by the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra, was the first regional Erasmus consortium in Portugal. Established to enhance the quality, efficiency and inclusiveness of Erasmus+ initiatives, it fosters a shared vision of internationalisation grounded in collaboration, mutual learning and regional cohesion. Now featuring eight institutions, it has become a national and international reference point and is the largest consortium for international mobility in Portugal.

The CANIE Accord offers a bold framework for climate accountability in international education, but its true impact lies in how institutions bring it to life. This session will highlight how the accord has catalysed deep transformation across diverse organisations, from strategic planning to student engagement. Through global, institutional and local perspectives, panellists will demonstrate how international education can turn climate pledges into systemic, measurable change.

This poster synthesises shifting student demand, programme preferences and destination market competitiveness across three regions: Asia; the Middle East and North Africa; and Latin America. Based on exclusive data and insights from a Studyportals and British Council research initiative, we will highlight where demand is strongest, which subjects and delivery models are accelerating and how institutions can strategically position transnational education partnerships to improve access and impact.

Established in 2012, the Monash Warwick Alliance is a pioneering model of international partnership between Monash University and the University of Warwick. Rooted in shared values of academic excellence and societal impact, the alliance integrates collaboration across research, education and professional services into the core of both institutions. We will outline how the alliance has remained relevant, resilient and robust, highlighting key outcomes, lessons learned and future directions.

INSSPIRE is an Erasmus+ project that aims to stimulate evidence-based inclusive education for food systems and climate change through building intra-university capacity, strengthening university–community collaboration and enhancing inter-university partnership. This poster presents the INSSPIRE Collaborative Online International Learning implementation manual, co-created with institutions across sub-Saharan East Africa.

This poster presents a living lab connecting Belgium and Benin, where students and teachers co-create solutions for sustainable agriculture, international trade, education and the concept of one health. Through project-based learning and intercultural collaboration, the initiative bridges classrooms and local communities, turning research and teaching into real-world impact and empowering future global changemakers.

How can universities turn geographical proximity into international strength? This poster shows how the University of Haute-Alsace and its Eucor partners use cross-border collaboration to build internationalisation at home through micro-mobility, co-supervised projects and shared modules. Together, we are turning borders into bridges for mobility, innovation and regional engagement.

How do you promote a newly established European university alliance before its projects even begin? This poster session will share the PIONEER alliance's experience in developing and implementing its communication, dissemination and impact plan – from creating a new website, socials and ambassador-led campaigns to identifying what worked (and what didn't) in reaching diverse academic and student audiences.

Seventeen global health leaders in seven countries participated in the GlobalUp programme pilot – an intercultural development initiative led by Nuvance, now part of Northwell Health. Through asynchronous online modules and participation in live, virtual, facilitated dialogue sessions, participants gained cultural humility and grew global competence as measured by the Intercultural Development Inventory, empowering more ethical, equity-minded educational partnerships in global health.

The Mobstacles team works as a unique link between higher education institutions and government parties, identifying and addressing obstacles to student mobility, both incoming and outgoing. We are not only working within a national context in the Netherlands but also building a European network.
