Sharon Stein

Dr Sharon Stein is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Studies at the University of British Columbia in Canada and a Visiting Professor with the Chair for Critical Studies in Higher Education Transformation at Nelson Mandela University in South Africa. Her research traces the colonial patterns that characterize mainstream education and examines the complexities involved in efforts to interrupt these patterns, particularly in relation to institutional commitments to internationalisation, decolonisation, and climate action. She believes education should prepare young people with the stamina and the intellectual, affective, and relational capacities to navigate complex wicked problems in relevant, rigorous, and responsible ways. Sharon is the founder of the Critical Internationalization Studies Network, founder of the Critically Engaged Climate Education (CECE) Network, and a founding member of the Gesturing Towards Decolonial Futures Collective
