Leiden University, the Netherlands
Atse Fokkens

Atse is Career Advisor for international students at Leiden University’s Humanities faculty. In this role he helps students to prepare for their entrance into the labour market, whether in their home country or in the Netherlands. Before starting at Leiden University, Atse worked for several years in the recruitment sector, first at Unique Multilingual, a recruitment agency specialised in recruitment of non-Dutch speakers for positions on the Dutch labour market. Later on, he moved on to a role in campus recruitment, focusing on high-potential recent graduates. These experiences brought him the knowledge to help students cross the bridge from university to working life, including overcoming the additional cultural challenges as a non-Dutch professional. Atse has a Master’s degree in International Relations from Webster University. He worked and lived for two years in Spain and during his studies he lived for one year in West Africa.
