About membership

Who can join the EAIE?

Any individual interested in the aims of the EAIE may apply for membership. Group membership is available until the end of March and individual membership is available year-round.

Why should I become an EAIE member?

By becoming an EAIE member you will join a vibrant and supportive community of higher education professionals from around the world and unlock benefits such as:

What happens after I send in my application form?

We will process your membership application as soon as possible and then we will send you an invoice for your membership fee. You can pay by bank transfer, or online in some circumstances.

How much does EAIE membership cost?

In 2023, membership costs €260 per year. We offer a reduced fee of €130 per year to applicants working in countries classified as 'low-income economies' or 'lower-middle economies' by the World Bank.

EAIE membership is based on a calendar year system whereby the term begins on 01 January and ends on 31 December. All membership terms that begin in 2023 will end on 31 December 2023 and will remain €260 during this period regardless of when they begin.

How can I pay my membership fee?

We accept payment by bank transfer. We can accept payment online (Visa, Mastercard and Maestro) in some circumstances. Instructions and information about payment are given on the invoice.

How long does my EAIE membership last?

Can I cancel my EAIE membership?

Yes, you can end your membership at any time; simply send your request to the EAIE Office. However, no refund of the membership fee is possible, and any outstanding invoices must be paid.

Can I or my institution transfer my EAIE membership?

No, all EAIE accounts are personal and belong to the individual. If an individual changes role or institution the membership remains with the individual.

How is having an EAIE account different than membership?

To be on our mailing list, attend any event or purchase a publication, an account must be created on our website. This means that you are listed in our records, not that you are a member of the EAIE. 

Is the EAIE an accreditation body?

The EAIE does not operate as an accreditation, recognition, or validation body for organisations with commercial or educational interests in the higher education systems of Europe or beyond. No claims may be made by other organisations which imply that the EAIE has accredited, recognised, validated or in any other way reviewed their services.

Does the EAIE provide funding or scholarships for students?

No, the EAIE does not provide funding nor does it award any scholarships. For scholarship opportunities within Europe, please visit Study in Europe or Scholarship portal. Alternatively, you might want to consult the Grants Register that is published every year by Palgrave Macmillan (a comprehensive guide to postgraduate and professional funding worldwide).

Group membership

What is group membership?

Group membership allows an institution or department to purchase a package of 10, 15, 20, or 35 EAIE membership at a reduced rate and assign them to individuals within their institution. Group membership for 2023 was available to purchase from late November until end of March.

Who can take up group membership?

Any institution with enough individuals interested in individual EAIE membership may apply for group membership and purchase a membership package. 

When can we apply for group membership?

Group membership for 2023 is be available to purchase from late November until end of March. Once purchased, memberships can be assigned at any point throughout the year. 

Can you customise a group membership package to our request?

No, it is only possible to purchase the pre-defined membership packages of 10, 15, 20 and 35. 

How can we pay for group membership?

An invoice will be generated for group membership that should be paid by bank transfer, immediately. 

What happens if we don’t pay our group membership invoice?

Non-payment of a group membership invoice will mean that all those that have been assigned an individual membership from your package will have their membership privileges revoked until payment has been made. 

How long does group membership last?

The individuals registered via your package are considered EAIE members between 01 January and 31 December of the membership year, regardless of when membership was requested and paid. 

How long does group membership take to process?

We endeavour to process group membership invoices and activate any assigned members within one week. 

Can I cancel, refund or transfer my group membership?

No, once a group membership has been requested and paid it is non-refundable. Once memberships have been assigned to an individual, they are non-transferrable.  

Do you offer institutional membership?

The EAIE continues to operate on an individual membership basis. Institutions or organisations cannot be members of the EAIE, only the individuals listed in the group package are classified as EAIE members. 

I should be a member but can’t access any member benefits.

If you believe you should be entitled to EAIE member benefits but cannot access them, please confirm first with your institution coordinator that they have assigned you a membership. If they have assigned you a membership and you still cannot access EAIE member services, please contact us.

What is an institution coordinator?

The institution coordinator is a representative from the institution, responsible for arranging billing, payment and assigning memberships to individuals within their institution. 

How can we change our institution coordinator?

If the institution wishes to change the institution coordinator this must be done so by the current institution coordinator contacting info@eaie.org and providing the replacement coordinator information. If this is not possible (eg due to sudden sickness or dismissal), a senior staff member from the institution can assign a new institutional coordinator by contacting info@eaie.org.

I’m already a member, but now want to be a part of a group membership can I get a partial refund?

Group membership can only be assigned to non-members. If somebody has already taken up, and paid for, EAIE membership in this membership year, they cannot be assigned group membership until the following membership year.
