Saskia Loer Hansen is Interim Vice-Chancellor & Chief Executive of Aston University.  Saskia joined Aston in 2017, taking up the role of Pro-Vice-Chancellor International.  She was responsible for driving the University’s internationalisation agenda, delivering successful international student recruitment, overseeing inbound and outbound student mobility, and opportunities for international research funding, and engaging with partners, sponsorship agencies and government officials across the world.   She was promoted in 2019 to become Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Engagement), with responsibility for business and civic engagement, international and marketing, development and alumni relations, and for the University’s student support functions. 

Before joining Aston, Saskia was at RMIT University in Australia as Executive Director, Global Development and Performance, having previously held posts at the University of Strathclyde in Scotland as Head of Governance, Management and Academic Policy and at Aalborg University in Denmark responsible for industry engagement and research and innovation activity. 

Saskia also held a part-time secondment as Secretary General to the European Consortium of Innovative Universities, working on e-learning initiatives, EU research funding, Erasmus Mundus programmes, leadership development and staff and student mobility. 

Saskia has degrees in Social Anthropology and Ethnography and European Studies from Aarhus University, Denmark, and an MBA from Strathclyde in Scotland.
