Expert in critical digital literacy and intercultural communication in virtual exchange contexts
Mirjam Hauck is Senior Lecturer in Languages at The Open University as well as Associate Head of School (Internationalisation, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion). She is also a Senior Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy and President of the European Association for Computer-Assisted Language Learning (EUROCALL). Her passion and expertise lie in the use of technologies for the learning and teaching of languages and cultures, in virtual exchange contexts in particular. She has published numerous articles on these topics and her work covers learner and teacher autonomy, intercultural communicative competence, and critical digital literacy. Mirjam presents regularly at conferences, seminars, and workshops worldwide and serves an Associate Editor of the CALL Journal and as a member of the editorial board of ReCALL and LLT. She is also the Director of the OU's Open Centre for Languages and Cultures, a one-stop-shop for communication in an interconnected world.
Mirjam holds an MA in Applied Linguistics from the University of Heidelberg and a PhD from the Open University on learning and teaching languages in a technology-mediated environment. Mirjam was elected as Chair of the Expert Community Language and Culture for the 2022-2024 term.
