The 2021 EAIE Community Exchange: virtual conference & exhibition is open for early-bird registration! Join thousands of international education professionals for four days of knowledge exchange, cross-cutting themes and meaningful moments of community connection. Let’s go braver and bolder as we work towards a sustainable future for our sector.

Building on the success of last year’s first-ever Community Exchange, the EAIE is bringing a new edition of this dynamic event to every corner of the world in September. After more than a year of virtual get-togethers in every shape and form, the Community Exchange will offer fresh new ways of connecting, collaborating and learning. The virtual conference is a place where you can come for an inspiration boost and leave feeling supported and invigorated. There are a lot of exciting activities lined up for those who attend, but here are some reasons to register.

Take action

The 2021 theme ‘Bolder. Braver. Go.' is a rallying cry to the international higher education sector that the time for action is now to bring about tangible change for the next generations. The carefully curated programme includes a wide variety of perspectives centred around ten sub-themes ranging from ‘Digital learning’ and ‘Internationalisation at Home’ to ‘Social responsibility’. You will hear from practitioners and key influencers in the sector and engage with the topic at hand in interactive break-out discussions with your peers as well as the session speakers from more than 45 countries.

Design your own experience

The sessions, the exhibition and networking services will be housed under one state-of-the-art event platform. You will be able to build your own schedule, watch sessions, and meet and chat with your peers any time of day during the event – no matter what your time zone. This gives you ample opportunity to really dive into the discussion and engage with the content – and with your colleagues – more deeply. The platform will open two weeks ahead of the event with a Community Day on 14 September. Get to know the platform, hear tips on how to make the most of your event week and meet your fellow participants in activities designed to kick off your virtual conference experience.

Whether you learn best in interactive real-time sessions with colleagues or perusing the digital poster gallery in the quiet evening hours, this year’s programme has a wide range of formats for every learning style. With more than 70 sessions and 50 posters, you can create your own journey through the content and make the most of your time at the event. Depending on your schedule, you can watch sessions at your own pace or participate in the live Q&As and sessions that shine the spotlight on the ten themes of the virtual conference. If you miss a session or a plenary, we’ve got you covered! All the sessions and live broadcasts will be available on demand during the Exchange and for three weeks after its end.

Be inspired

Our line-up of keynote speakers will give you food for thought, spotlighting innovative ideas and diverse perspectives to help you do your best work. Former President of Ireland Mary Robinson will kick off the Opening Plenary with an enlightening address on what we as a sector can do to spark meaningful conversations and make changes for the greater good of the world, especially when it comes to human rights and climate justice.

Our mid-week keynote, Xiuhtezcatl Martinez, will take the audience on a rhythmic journey, encouraging them to be bolder and braver in advocating for more sustainable practices in their institutions for future generations. And last but not least, Jordan Nguyen will help us close the event on a high note with his talk on how design thinking can help us change perspectives and ultimately the world.

Connect with your community

Though we cannot yet meet face-to-face, cultivating meaningful professional relationships is a significant element of the Community Exchange. The virtual exhibition part of the Community Exchange is the perfect place to meet and collaborate with potential partners and hear the latest news and trends from the national and regional pavilions. We have also been working hard to offer fresh and innovative ways to carve out these moments of connection in the programme – dedicated time slots to spontaneously meet your peers, strike up a conversation and start collaborating. On and off-screen moments of connection and reflection will be encouraged to create a more immersive conference experience with podcast walks, coffee conversations and moments of zen.
