This week, we’re embarking on an exciting journey with the launch of our new series 'The EAIE on the Road'. Through this initiative, we’ll share stories from our travels around the globe as we represent the voices of professionals in the sector. We’ll highlight our presence in key spaces and showcase collaborations with associations and partners who share our mission to advance international higher education.

To kick things off, we travel to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Where last week, the EAIE took part in the 3rd EU–ASEAN Policy Dialogue on Higher Education, focusing on Enhancing Talent and Skills Development through Internationalisation.

The event was officially opened by the Minister of Higher Education of Malaysia, H.E. Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir and brought together an impressive range of participants: senior government officials from ministries of education and higher education, rectors and directors from universities and polytechnics across all ASEAN Member States. Other guests included representatives of the private sector, as well as delegates from international and regional organisations such as UNESCO and the ILO.

As part of the Dialogue, EAIE Board Member Edyta Lachowicz-Santos moderated a session on Talent and Leadership, exploring systemic and institutional barriers to advancing leadership through internationalisation. Interactive group discussions identified both challenges and actionable recommendations to address them.

In a second session, Edyta contributed to the joint report-back presentation alongside colleagues from ASEAN institutions, sharing insights and good practices on fostering leadership and talent development through internationalisation and cooperation.

The EAIE’s participation also extended to the side event, ConnectED: Building Partnerships for ASEAN Internationalisation", a networking event held at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Guided by the theme ‘building partnerships’ , the event aimed to build on the outcomes of the Policy Dialogue and served as a platform for knowledge exchange on internationalisation strategies, mobility programmes, and leadership development.

The results of these sessions will contribute to the Policy Dialogue’s broader recommendations on strengthening higher education collaboration between ASEAN and the EU.

This event formed part of the EU–ASEAN Sustainable Connectivity Package – Higher Education Programme (SCOPE-HE), an EU-funded initiative implemented by Nuffic and DAAD, which builds on the achievements of SHARE and Erasmus+ to enhance sustainable connectivity in education, research, and skills development.

The EAIE warmly congratulates the organisers and thanks them for involving the EAIE in shaping the future of international higher education.

The EAIE is proud to support initiatives that foster meaningful collaboration and capacity-building between the EU and ASEAN higher education communities.
