Marrik Bellen

Marrik is the Director of the Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies (Koninklijk Instituut voor Taal-, Land- en Volkenkunde, KITLV) in Jakarta and Permanent Representative of Leiden University in Indonesia. Having studied musicology at Utrecht University and Asian studies at Leiden University, he has accumulated more than 20 years of experience in international higher education advancement, as well as extensive international experience in higher education promotion and marketing, international academic collaboration, programme management and alumni networking. Marrik has been involved in setting up and maintaining (international) alumni organisations as well as coordinating alumni activities on both the institutional and national level. In his current position, he is responsible for facilitating KITLV-Jakarta and Leiden University’s academic collaboration with Indonesian governmental institutions, universities and relevant research organisations. Marrik has been involved in EAIE activities since 2002, focusing on issues concerning international alumni relations, and has been Vice-Chair of the Expert Community Alumni Relations (2014–2016).
