EAIE Barcelona 2022: experience the magic in person

Experience the magic in person EAIE Barcelona 2022

Despite our best efforts, there’s something about meeting in person that simply can’t be recreated online. The 2022 EAIE Conference and Exhibition will be the long-awaited moment when the international higher education community can finally come together again in person. What better place to reunite than the beautiful city of Barcelona! Magnetic and full of life, the Catalan capital is the picture-perfect location for us to celebrate the future in full colour.

EAIE Barcelona 2022 is this year’s unmissable opportunity to reconnect with old friends and rekindle partnerships in person, in one of the most vibrant cities in the Mediterranean. From the colours, shapes and textures of Gaudí, to the unique flavours of Catalan gastronomy and the cool breeze off the coast of its gorgeous beaches, Barcelona is a feast for the senses.

This is the exciting backdrop against which practitioners will draw inspiration for our joint effort to enhance the beautiful picture of internationalisation that we are collectively painting. It’s a chance to physically immerse ourselves in networking and knowledge exchange, and witness firsthand the enormous progress we can make.

Just as this year’s theme explores the colourful, diverse approaches to internationalisation, this year’s programme provides a vibrant mix of activities to fire up our community. As in years past, engaging sessions and workshops, riveting keynotes and a host of networking events are among the assortment of experiences that participants can expect to enjoy.

Four days, a full spectrum of possibilities

With such a wide range of conference activities on offer, it can be hard to choose how to spend these four precious days with your community. Here are some of this year’s highlights to make it easier.

Tuesday 13 September

Take advantage of this pre-conference day to get a head start on learning and networking. Choose from nine practical workshops, meet new people at speed-networking sessions, brush up on your internationalisation basics or get a taste of the Spanish higher education system by joining one of 11 Campus Experiences. Join other eco-minded participants for an afternoon of netwalking while beautifying one of Barcelona’s beaches. Finally, kick off the conference by savouring true Spanish hospitality at the largest networking event of the week, the Opening Reception.

Wednesday 14 September

Opening plenary keynote speaker Yalda Hakim will inspire with you her experiences as a journalist in some of the world’s most war-torn states, reflecting on how international education can play a part in a better future for the world. The Exhibition opens today, giving you the chance to meet in person with partners again. Expert Community Feature sessions serve up the latest updates in these specialised fields. Dive deeper with peers into one of the new Spotlight sessions, or if you like your content fast and to the point, don’t miss the quickfire Ignite© sessions. Today’s life skills sessions help you scrub up on your resilience and assertiveness skills.

Thursday 15 September

Today is the ideal day to dive into some of the more than 150 sessions on offer for the week, including the popular graphical poster sessions. Find out what’s new from National Agencies around the world and get critical with senior peers as the Critical Conversations series touches upon risks and values. Panellists will debate whether ‘Internationalisation is just a nice-to-have’ as the much-anticipated EAIE debate returns in full force. Prepare your ‘intellectual marshmallows’ for melting around today’s campfire sessions and warm up your vocal chords for the return of the much-loved EAIE choir, rehearsing to showcase Spain’s musical heritage to participants on the final conference day.

Friday 16 September

The last conference day, this will be your remaining opportunity to forge face-to-face connections at the EAIE Exhibition. The final Spotlight sessions will focus on Internationalisation at Home and stakeholder engagement, and you can take one last dip into the content sea in one of the fishbowl sessions. Take a moment to marvel at the kaleidoscope of ideas and perspectives that our community has conjured up throughout the week and take inspiration for our shared future from this year’s Closing plenary keynote speaker, renowned photographer Jimmy Nelson. Join fellow participants in person one last time for the Closing luncheon and get excited about what’s in store for EAIE Rotterdam 2023.
