Gain a foundational understanding of research on internationalisation through this on-demand course.
Are you curious to learn more about research on internationalisation and how it might help you in your work? This course will help you gain foundational insights to improve your understanding and appreciation of the research on internationalisation that’s out there and how you, as a practitioner, can benefit from it most effectively.
This unit will help you develop an understanding of the general landscape of research on internationalisation, thanks to the knowledge base provided by Subject Matter Expert Daniela Crăciun (University of Twente’s Centre for Higher Education Policy Studies, CHEPS) and guest speaker Laura Rumbley (EAIE). You’ll learn more about the phenomenon of internationalisation, the current topics and issues that are the focus of much research today (including where there are still gaps), the different sources and types of data and research, as well as the importance of ‘units of analysis.’

She holds a PhD in Political Science from Central European University and specialises in public policy, with a particular focus on higher education, research design, content analysis, and conceptualisation.
Her doctoral research examined national higher education internationalisation strategies worldwide, using computer-assisted text analysis to bridge empirical data and conceptual insights. Before joining the University of Twente, Daniela taught at Bard College Berlin and worked as a tutor and academic advisor with the OLIve Refugee Education Initiatives in Germany.
Daniela has also held visiting scholar appointments at the University of Yangon (Myanmar), the Federal University of São Carlos (Brazil), and the Center for International Higher Education at Boston College (United States), contributing to research and teaching in higher education across diverse international contexts.

Dive into this unit to advance your understanding of using research to inform your practice or potentially do research yourself. With support from Subject Matter Experts Simone Hackett (the Hague University of Applied Sciences) and Miguel Antonio Lim (University of Manchester), and guest speakers, Fiona Hunter (CHEI) and Ece Arat (Nuffic), you’ll become familiar with the building blocks of research-informed practice, find research that’s useful to you and learn how to apply it to your own work. You’ll also be exposed to information about actively engaging in research, if this is a skill area you would like to develop.
