International students and students with a refugee background often face barriers that can make their university experience stressful and lonely. What can higher education institutions do to promote the well-being of these students? What are the similarities and differences between international students and students with a refugee background? Based on recent research conducted in the Netherlands and Italy, we discuss practical implications and best practices for promoting well-being.
