EAIE Learning circle Member-only event

Learning Circle: AI and study abroad? Competition or collaboration?

Discuss what study abroad can offer that no algorithm can replicate. Share experiences and connect with fellow EAIE members in this open, peer-led session.

What are EAIE Learning Circles?

EAIE Learning Circles are an ongoing series of virtual meetings designed to foster peer‑to‑peer learning and open conversation around shared challenges, themes and professional roles. Each meeting focuses on a different topic, offering members a welcoming space to connect, exchange experiences, and learn from one another. In this session, we’ll explore how AI is reshaping international education and ask a fundamental question: what can study abroad offer that no algorithm can replicate?

These 45-minute meetings are kept small to encourage meaningful, participant‑driven discussion. This format puts you at the centre, where everyone is welcome to exchange experiences, challenges and ideas with fellow members facing similar day‑to‑day realities. Unlike a webinar, there’s no formal presentation—just an open conversation. A discussion chair helps guide the flow and ensure everyone has room to contribute. These sessions are exclusive to EAIE members and free to join.

Topic: AI and study abroad? Competition or collaboration?

As AI reshapes international education, from language learning and communication to academic tasks and cultural preparation, a fundamental question emerges: what can study abroad offer that no algorithm can replicate? Together, we'll examine the unique value of experiences rooted in real-world human interaction, cultural immersion, and navigating unfamiliar environments.

We'll discuss the durable skills that emerge from living and learning abroad, such as resilience, cross-cultural judgment, tolerance for ambiguity, and the ability to navigate unwritten social norms. As institutions face growing pressure to demonstrate value and measure outcomes in an AI-driven world, how do we make the case that the discomfort, unpredictability, and personal growth of being abroad are not problems to solve, but the very experiences that make study abroad transformative? Bring your questions, insights, and experiences to this open conversation with colleagues from across the international education community.
