As AI reshapes international education, from language learning and communication to academic tasks and cultural preparation, a fundamental question emerges: what can study abroad offer that no algorithm can replicate? Together, we'll examine the unique value of experiences rooted in real-world human interaction, cultural immersion, and navigating unfamiliar environments.
We'll discuss the durable skills that emerge from living and learning abroad, such as resilience, cross-cultural judgment, tolerance for ambiguity, and the ability to navigate unwritten social norms. As institutions face growing pressure to demonstrate value and measure outcomes in an AI-driven world, how do we make the case that the discomfort, unpredictability, and personal growth of being abroad are not problems to solve, but the very experiences that make study abroad transformative? Bring your questions, insights, and experiences to this open conversation with colleagues from across the international education community.

Meet the Chair
Sasha Perugini
Professor Sasha Perugini is a trilingual academic leader (Italian, Serbian, and English) with more than three decades of experience across US, Italian, and Australian higher education. She serves as Director of Syracuse University Florence and Director of Global Innovation for Syracuse Abroad. A published author and frequent speaker, Professor Perugini teaches cross-cultural management and writes on cultural narratives, leadership, and the implications of artificial intelligence for education and society. In 2023, she was awarded the Chancellor’s Fellowship for Innovation. She is also active in advancing women’s leadership and regularly leads seminars on governance, inclusion, and intercultural strategy.
