Personal connections are often the driver for new collaborations. But what happens when the seed funding ends? How can we keep the collaboration going – or better yet, keep it growing? This is a particular issue in Erasmus+ KA171 projects. In this interactive session, we will discuss the experiences of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, Utrecht University and your own institution in building and maintaining fruitful and equal global partnerships.
Caspar de Bok is head of International Affairs and of Educational Policies at the Faculty of Law, Economics and Governance at Utrecht University(the Netherlands) . He is a senior policy advisor to the Faculty Board on topics like internationalisation, EDI en education.
He has a long time experience in internationalisation of higher education and served in various positions. His focus is on comprehensive internationalisation and mainstreaming internationalisation in organisations. This ranges from processes, management and strategy at faculty level as well as at university level, to management and strategy of international projects and networks.
The common theme in is work is connecting stakeholders and different perspectives to achieve a shared goals. Mutual understanding and respect are key.
He now is member of the EAIE General Council.
Professor Gifty Oforiwaa Gyamera is an Associate Professor at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) where she serves as Head of the Office of International Programmes and Development. She is also a faculty member in the School of Public Service and Governance. She holds a PhD in Education Studies from the University of Roehampton.
Her scholarship spans internationalisation of higher education, gender and development, decolonisation and postcolonial studies, comparative and international education, and university–community engagement. A major theme in her work is the critical examination of inequalities and the colonial and neoliberal structures that shape higher education, particularly in African contexts. She has published extensively in international peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes.
Professor Gyamera is an official partner of the UNESCO Chair in Equity, Social Justice and Higher Education, led by Professor Penny Jane Burke at the University of Newcastle, Australia. She is also a founding member of the International Network on Gender, Social Justice and Praxis.
Her academic and professional work is ultimately concerned with how universities, particularly those in Africa and the Global South, can engage internationally while remaining responsive to their own histories, cultures and development priorities. Her scholarship advocates more equitable and decolonial approaches to higher education.
