Roundtable session
This session explores the urgent need for decolonial leadership frameworks to build capacity in internationalising higher education in the Global South. Drawing on theoretical models and empirical case studies from Brazil, South Africa, and Peru, it identifies the skills gap impeding effective internationalisation. The session offers actionable strategies to equip educational leaders to overcome these barriers, enhancing their ability to lead internationalisation efforts in transformed and decolonial spaces.
Patricia Céspedes Sánchez is a Peruvian seasoned Senior International Officer with over 20 years of experience advancing internationalisation and creating value in higher education institutions in Peru and internationally. Currently, she is based in the United States and serves as the Chief International Officer at Reimagine Global Education. She is also a board member at AIEA - Association of International Education Administrators and Vice-Chair of the NGO América Solidaria Peru.
In addition to her leadership roles, Céspedes Sánchez is pursuing a Ph.D. at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Italy and is actively involved in consultancy work, guiding and empowering organizations and governments to develop robust, context-specific internationalization strategies and projects to enhance their global influence and impact. She holds an MBA from Tulane University, USA, and a Master's degree in International Business Management from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú.
