Simon Litchfield
Durham University, United Kingdom
Deputy Head, Global Opportunities & Experience. Durham University.
Joining Durham University’s International Office in 2019, Simon experienced a sink or swim introduction to staff and student mobility, managing the multiple challenges of: civil unrest, a pandemic, Brexit and wars. Despite this, over this period he has also managed an overhaul of Durham’s mobility programmes, from a narrow study abroad focus to a global opportunities platform that offers students a full range of choice including work, study, art, research and more. This transformation includes successfully navigating the transition from Erasmus+ to Turing, increasing the number of Durham’s European and non-EU partners, adding twelve new mobility programmes and being a central part of Durham’s involvements with the Coimbra Group and Arqus European Alliance.
Previously, Simon managed the Maria Skłodowska-Curie cofunded Durham International Fellowships for Research and Enterprise (DIFeREns). This multi-million Euro scheme brought hundreds of academics to Durham to undertake collaborative international research.
