While internationalisation is now generally embraced, its future is also threatened by a range of internal and external developments, including declining resources and leadership instability. Systemic internationalisation provides a viable way forward. This session will engage you in the visualisation of systemic internationalisation to help you imagine how this project can best take root in your institutional setting.
Dr. Harvey Charles currently serves as an international education consultant with Gateway International Group. He has served as a senior international officer and tenured professor of international education at multiple institutions around the United States. With research interests including comprehensive internationalization, internationalizing the curriculum and leadership in international education, Dr. Charles’ scholarly contributions to the field include his role as co-editor of Leading Internationalization: A Handbook for International Education, as well as the second edition of the Handbook of International Higher Education. He has also published a number of book chapters, peer-reviewed journal articles and thought pieces on contemporary issues in the field of international education.
He has provided valuable service to the field of international education, through leadership positions within the Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA). Dr. Charles is a past president of AIEA, served as editor of the same organization, and chaired the Task Force on Standards of Professional Practice. He has consulted widely with colleges and universities on advancing internationalization, serves on a number of national and international boards, is a regular participant in professional conferences and gives keynote addresses on international education issues around the world.
