💡 Quality assurance
This advanced half-day workshop will guide you through the process of applying for and issuing the joint European degree label. Combining expert-led insights with hands-on exercises, we will show you how to interpret the criteria for the label, align institutional practices and apply the guidelines, using real-world examples and good practice cases. The workshop will also feature a guest speaker, Yann-Maël Bideau, Policy Officer at the European Commission, who coordinates the development and implementation of the joint European degree label initiative.
Learning outcomes
Target audience
This workshop is targeted at representatives of European Universities alliances, higher education institutions, and quality assurance agencies involved in joint and transnational education. It is also relevant for institutional internationalisation and accreditation officers supporting European-level cooperation.
Alexandru CARȚIȘ, PhD, is Head of the CIVIS Education Unit within CIVIS – Europe’s Civic University Alliance, where he leads the design, governance and implementation of joint programmes, micro-credentials, flexible learning pathways and alliance-level educational initiatives. He is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, University of Bucharest, with teaching and research focusing on higher-education policy, curricular innovation, embedded mobility, joint degrees, and quality assurance in the European Higher Education Area.
He is a member of multiple European and international expert groups, including the Advisory Board of the European Degree Policy Lab, the FOREU4ALL group on the European Degree, EARLI, and the Large-Scale Testing Lab at the University of Bucharest. He has contributed extensively to policy experimentation and knowledge transfer projects such as SMARTT, NewFAV, ICT4EDU, LEAD4EDU and MIND THE GAP, and is co-author of several research and policy outputs shaping the European debate on micro-credentials, joint programmes and curricular flexibilisation.
His international activity includes invited teaching (INQAAHE), multiple European research stages (King’s College London and Universidad Autónoma de Madrid), and scientific dissemination at international conferences, including EAIE (awarded Best Poster in 2024 and 2025), ECER, FOHE-BPRC, and CERED. His publication record includes articles, book chapters, proceedings, handbooks and policy documents on micro-credentials, European Degrees, digitally enhanced mobility, and programme design within transnational alliances.
