💡 Research on Internationalisation
With support from the first EAIE Doctoral Research Grants, five PhD candidates have spent the past year exploring questions with clear relevance for policy and practice in our field. This fast-paced Ignite© session will offer insights into the key questions and practical findings emerging from their research on issues affecting local and international students, educational developers, institutional leaders and policymakers.
Stanislav Avdeev is a PhD Candidate in Economics at the University of Amsterdam. Hi research examines discrimination and diversity in higher education and healthcare using large-scale administrative and survey data from the Netherlands and Norway, combined with quasi-experimental methods.
In addition to academic work, he leads policy evaluation research at the Amsterdam Health and Technology Institute, an independent research institute focused on healthcare policy and evidence-based decision-making. He also serves as an expert reviewer for UNESCO’s Global Education Monitoring Report.
Rúna Gudmarsdóttir is the Director of the Erasmus+ National Agency in Iceland. She has worked on internationalisation in education since 2007, both for the National Agency, the University of Iceland and the European Commission.
In parallel with her role as NA director, Rúna represents Iceland in the European Network for the Recognition of Prior Learning (ERPL), serves as an administrator in the Academic Cooperation Association (ACA) and is actively involved in the European Network for International Student Mobility (ENIS).
As of 2024, Rúna is also a PhD candidate in Sociology at Tilburg University. In her ongoing research project, she examines the impact of parental responsibilities on Erasmus+ participation among students in the Nordic countries.
