This session will discuss the different meanings of the concept of responsible internationalisation, as initially defined in the academic community and then more recently in the interpretation introduced by the European Commission. Experts from Sweden and Brazil will discuss with participants the different implications of the understanding and implementation of this concept.

Giorgio Marinoni is the Manager of Higher Education and Internationalization at the International Association of Universities (IAU). He oversees Internationalization as one of the four strategic priorities of the Association. Dr Gothenberg is the Executive Director of STINT, The Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education, since 2009, and a Member of the Board of Karolinska Institutet, Sweden, since 2024. He has held the position of Science and Technology Attaché at the Embassy of Sweden in Tokyo, Japan. He has been a Post-Doc at the Tokyo Inst of Tech and is currently an Adj Prof at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. During 2024, Gothenberg was a member of the EU expert groups on Science Diplomacy. His research background is in Electronic System Design, and his current interests include science and Research Policy, International Cooperation, particularly in the areas of responsible internationalization and Science Diplomacy.
