As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to reshape the global education landscape, Hong Kong is exploring new approaches to integrate technology while keeping learners, educators and human connections at the heart of education. This session will explore the latest developments in Hong Kong’s education sector, highlighting how universities are applying AI and digital innovation to enhance teaching, learning and student experiences. Through examples of emerging practices and strategic initiatives, the session will examine how human-centred, AI-enhanced learning can support personalised education, foster creativity and critical thinking, and equip students with the skills and competencies needed for a rapidly evolving future. Participants will gain insights into Hong Kong’s vision for future-proofing education and opportunities for collaboration in shaping the next generation of global learning.
Dr. Albert CHAU is Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) of Hong Kong Baptist University. He is responsible for the University’s teaching and learning for the nurturing of creative, caring and ethical global citizens. He leads the development of curriculum and academic programmes, quality assurance, innovative learning such as experiential learning and eLearning, student recruitment and placement, and globalisation of teaching and learning.
Dr. CHAU received his BSc in Industrial Engineering and Postgraduate Certificate in Psychology at The University of Hong Kong (HKU), and MSc and PhD in Psychology at The University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA. Prior to working at Baptist University, he worked in various capacities at HKU, including Warden of University Hall, Director of General Education and Dean of Student Affairs.
Professor Geoffrey Shen is Associate Vice President (Global Partnerships), Director of Global Engagement, Chair Professor of Construction Management, and Master of the STARS Residential College at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). Since joining PolyU in 1994, he has held various leadership roles. Renowned globally for his contribution to sustainable construction, Professor Shen has been recognised as one of the world’s Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate for 2023, 2024 and 2025, and ranked among Stanford’s Top 2% Most-Cited Scientists according to the research by Stanford University. He has led significant research projects funded by international and government bodies. As a certified Value Management Facilitator, Professor Shen has contributed to over 100 government projects and served on key advisory panels in Hong Kong, positively influencing academia, industry, and policy in construction management worldwide.
Julia Chen (PhD, FTCL, PFHEA) is the Chair of the Hong Kong Teaching Excellence Alliance initiated by the Hong Kong University Grants Committee, and the Director of the Educational Development Centre at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Her research interests include leveraging technology in education, learning analytics for quality enhancement, and English Across the Curriculum. She leads several large-scale multi-university projects, including one on incorporating GenAI in learning, teaching and assessment, that involves all the government-funded universities in Hong Kong. Julia has won numerous awards, such as the QS Reimagine Education Awards Breakthrough Technology Innovation in Education Silver Prize, the Hong Kong UGC Teaching Award (Collaborative Team leader), EdTech Heroes Learning Experience Award, Paper Award in Learning Analytics, and twice her university’s President’s Award for Excellent Performance in teaching and service respectively. Julia is a popular speaker and has been invited to give keynotes and talks in HK, Indonesia, Japan, Mainland China, Singapore, Sweden, UK and USA. She has been honoured with the lifetime designation of Distinguished Fellow by the Association for Writing Across the Curriculum in the USA.
