National politics driving internationalisation strategies: Help or hindrance? (S4.09)

15:30 – 16:30 CEST, 10 September 2025 ‐ 1 hour

Room: F4

Roundtable session

National politics and negative political sentiments strongly affect strategic internationalisation at universities. Political decisions leading to changes in laws and regulations, once possibly enabling internationalisation, are now becoming obstacles, pushing universities back in time. This session will consider developments around Europe that are leading to decreased opportunities for cooperation, mobility, the development of English degree programmes and the running of international classrooms.
