This session will examine how internationalisation can be pursued responsibly to have a meaningful societal impact, and how to measure it. We will share European and Latin American perspectives, supported by the framework of responsible internationalisation's basic pillars.
Professor and researcher at the University of Guadalajara (UDG). Since September 2026, she has served as Director of Continuous Improvement, Agreement Monitoring, and Technical Secretariat at the General Directorate for University Higher Education of Mexico’s Ministry of Public Education.
She is a member of the National System of Researchers of Secihti and of the Institute for Educational Research at the University of Guadalajara. She also serves as Coordinator of the North American Spanish-language Articles Section for Education Policy Analysis Archives, a journal based at Arizona State University.
Her research focuses on higher education policy, management, and internationalization.
She served as Coordinator of International Programs at the University of Guadalajara from 2005 to 2013. She coordinated the dual-degree Master’s program in International Higher Education with Boston College (United States) at the University Center for Economic and Administrative Sciences (Univeristy of Guadalajara) from the program’s launch in 2018 until May 2025.
She was Director of the Division of Economic and Social Studies at the University Center for the Valleys (University of Guadalajara) from May 2025 to August 2026. She has also served as an external consultant to the World Bank and as Vice President of the Mexican Association for International Education.
Uwe Brandenburg holds a PhD from the University of Bristol, an MscEcon from the University of Swansea, and an M.A. in Islamic Sciences from the WWU Münster. He is Managing Director of the Global Impact Institute, held an Assoc.Prof. at the University Rovira I Virgili (2017-2021), and was a guest lecturer at the ESCP Berlin. Prior to that he was Managing Partner of CHE Consult as well as Director International at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
Uwe has published widely on internationalization and led major impact studies, e.g. the Erasmus Impact Study. He presents on international conferences and teaches at different universities. He has participated in many large-scale Erasmus projects and published more than 40 articles, working papers, and book chapters. The most cited one is "The End of Internationalisation" together with Hans de Wit.
Uwe’s work focuses on impact and Internationalisation in Higher Education for Society (IHES) and the influence of tech on internationalisation. He also gave a TEDx talk in March 2019 and is a fervent believer in change.
