Session 07.07

Managing mental health across cultures

Culture has a significant influence on how individuals tend to perceive, experience and cope with mental illnesses and typical stressors such as interpersonal conflicts, parental disapproval and perceived failure. This session will outline the recent scientific discussion of the impact of culture on psychological disorders and treatment as well as the knowledge, skills and attitudes of counsellors that help them to cater effectively and appropriately to diverse student populations.
