Erasmus+ is calling on you to help shape its future! During this session, we will take stock of the discussions on the Erasmus+ programme for 2028 to 2034. We will outline how the different actions may look from 2028 onwards, what may change and what will be new. You will be invited to contribute your ideas and insights to help fine-tune the design of mobility and cooperation actions in Europe and beyond. ​

💡 Internationalisation of the curriculum | Erasmus+

How can universities create global classrooms that revolutionise learning through collaboration? Drawing on the HUBIoC capacity-building project, this workshop will provide practical strategies for designing student-centred, internationalised curriculum experiences that empower educators and students to create meaningful, lasting change across continents. Based on pedagogical and methodological principles, we will demonstrate how to build global classrooms that also serve as incubators of global leaders capable of implementing innovations in pedagogical practice. In these classrooms, internationalisation of the curriculum becomes a tangible practice in a common language that enhances global competencies in all participants.

Learning outcomes

• Implement a context-based model for managing innovative pedagogical practices in IoC;
• Identify and apply the relevant pedagogical and methodological principles for co-creating global classrooms;
• Develop strategies for capacity-building partnerships and actionable plans for transformative and equitable collaboration.

Target audience
This workshop is targeted at educators, academic leaders, and internationalisation professionals engaged in teaching innovation, partnership development, and curriculum design. It is particularly valuable for those seeking to embed global perspectives within local learning contexts, build sustainable cross-border collaborations, or start an Internationalisation of the Curriculum strategy.

We invite the EAIE community to continue and deepen the discussion on the future of international research cooperation under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions and Horizon Europe. This session will cover the main cooperation opportunities in the current MSCA programme and possible changes after 2027, supported by practical examples from MSCA-funded projects and beneficiaries' feedback. Special attention will be put on MSCA's international dimension, which is one of the programme's key features.

This panel session will explore how European universities of technology and their cross-border alliances can drive Europe's competitiveness and technological sovereignty. Bringing together voices from academia, industry and policy, we will highlight how the European Universities Initiative and alliances with a tech footprint can strengthen autonomy in critical technologies, link education to innovation and secure Europe's leadership on the global stage.

More than 20 million Europeans live on islands and in coastal regions, where traditional mobility often fails. Can internationalisation at home transform peripheral universities from passive recipients to active shapers of European higher education? Drawing on the EUNICoast alliance's experiences, this fishbowl will confront a critical question: How do we design internationalisation at home that genuinely builds capacity, engages faculty and leads to mobility, rather than just substituting for it?

The European Universities Initiative's ambitious target of 50% of students benefiting from mobility leaves 'mobility' undefined, leading alliances to stretch the term to include virtual exchanges and other forms of internationalisation at home. This session will examine how the alliances are reinterpreting mobility, whether this dilutes the meaning and what it means for internationalisation initiatives in Europe and beyond.

As European university alliances and other networks evolve, their leaders are navigating uncharted waters, balancing the stability of traditional academic fortresses with the openness of collaborative harbours. This session will explore the personal and systemic dimensions of leading transformation. We will examine paradoxes of leadership, share lived experiences and begin redefining leadership as a collective, adaptive practice within a changing higher education landscape.

How do European Universities Initiative alliances secure sustainable funding beyond the Erasmus+ framework? This World Café will explore innovative approaches and lessons learned from alliances including ENGAGE.EU, Unite! and Circle U. Join to exchange ideas on diversifying funding sources, leveraging EU and national programmes and developing institutional co-funding models.

Building on successful EAIE sessions over the past few years on the Western Balkans and cooperation with enlargement countries, this session will continue to look at how EU and enlargement country universities can strengthen cooperation. With speakers from Moldova and Bosnia and Herzegovina, we will discuss how such partnerships build institutional capacity and prepare higher education systems for future association to Erasmus+. You will be able to share lessons with each other.

How do national and institutional stakeholders approach knowledge security? Drawing from insights on developing and integrating knowledge security oversight in national and institutional settings, this session will explore approaches by a national funding agency and a higher education institution to awareness and compliance. The session builds on work at the Academic Cooperation Association, spotlighting knowledge security and how to identify stakeholders, leverage support and integrate oversight.

This session centres on a European Commission report analysing mobility to and from the Study in Europe region. Using UNESCO, OECD and Erasmus+ data, the report explores trends in student flows, policy impacts and institutional responses. The panel will discuss Europe's position as a global education hub, the rise of STEM and credit mobility, and strategies for advancing higher education internationalisation.

Get ready to dive into the future of the European Student Card Initiative and learn how this key component of the European higher education interoperability framework is reshaping the landscape. This session will outline the ESCI roadmap beyond 2027, highlighting the challenges and opportunities ahead. Join the discussion with EU representatives, international relations officers and digital officers, and have your say on the way forward for ESCI.

This poster introduces a European student-led initiative empowering female innovators through mentorship, community building and entrepreneurial training across the Circle U. alliance. We equip young women with the skills, confidence and networks to thrive as founders and changemakers. Our poster illustrates this journey, from inspiration and collaboration to innovation and impact.

Erasmus+ KA2 and KA3 experts from the Una Europa alliance have successfully engaged in step-by-step, bottom-up co-creation of the Una Edu+ Working Group. Beyond developing joint activities that would otherwise have been created in silos – such as events, project proposal support services and staff skills training – the experts have become the "best colleagues ever", now able to work together to find solutions to common critical issues, consulting each other as peers on a daily basis via WhatsApp.

The European Universities Initiative and the European Student Card Initiative are jointly shaping the future of an interoperable digital higher education landscape. Let us move forward together from isolated IT solutions to interoperable digital ecosystems. As IT coordinators for these initiatives, we focus on three key areas: networking, co-working and being future ready. Join this digital transformation: connect, collaborate and contribute to a seamless digital future for European universities.

To solve global challenges, we need more exchange and internationalisation. The Arqus Alliance has also set itself this goal for its students and staff. But how can we make internationalisation more climate-friendly at the same time? We will provide information on green mobility, collected in an online kit, specifically for travel to Arqus locations, and we will share examples and ideas for green mobility, helping you to keep your carbon footprint small despite frequent business travel.

The microcredentials train is gathering pace – but how do we get everyone on board? This poster explores the challenges and insights gained from developing a communication action plan within the Erasmus+ project 4EU+ Microcredential Integration. We focus on communication strategies directed towards young and adult learners in the context of a microcredentials offer that provides skills and competencies for the green and digital transitions, transferable across European countries and sectors.

European university alliances are dynamic entities with diverse goals for students, staff, education and research. For many local university communities, however, these alliances can seem like a multi-headed monster, making communication challenging. This poster session aims to give practical tips on how to effectively articulate the value and successes of alliances. We will provide practical tips and tools for successful communication of alliances at local institutions.

The sustainability of the European Universities Initiative depends on coherent funding mechanisms and legislative or administrative adaptations by the participating countries. This poster session will look at how national and regional authorities are supporting alliances, focusing on funding and joint programmes. It will draw on the midterm results of the EU-funded Future4Alliances project, which brings together public bodies to create a favourable environment for the development of alliances.

European university alliances are the flagship initiative of the Erasmus+ programme. The national agencies from Austria, Germany, Norway and Hungary are running a long-term activity called SPREAD EUI. This supports the dissemination of the results of European university alliances to all institutions, especially those that are not part of an alliance. One of the key questions is: How can the innovative results of the European university alliances benefit the wider higher education sector?
