Nancy Terryn

For 10 years, I have been the person responsible for university development cooperation (UDC) at Ghent University, guiding Ghent academics and researchers in their UDC activities. This includes providing information on funding possibilities, reviewing project proposals and guiding the projects during their execution from A to Z. There have been close to 500 such projects since 2013, some with budgets up to €750,000 a year. The position also includes the follow-up of both inwards and outwards mobility of students and staff to and from the Global South.

I think I will make a good addition to the Cooperation for Development Steering group, both for my own involvement in this field, at ground level and at the level of policy discussions, and because I am backed up by the expertise of 15 colleagues who are active in guiding UDC projects. Ghent, being a top 100 university, is also committed to taking its role in global development seriously. We are looking across the breadth of our activities to try to bridge education and research projects and achieve maximum impact.
