International marketing is my passion: for the last 15 years of my professional life I have worked in international and higher education marketing and recruitment for various organisations, including universities in the UK, Germany and Australia. I am familiar with the ‘bums-on-seats’ revenue-focused approach to recruitment that prevails in much of the English-speaking world, but my heart is in a partnership-based approach, where institutions build lasting relationships that extend well beyond recruitment, and view recruitment, marketing, exchanges and collaborative research as part of the overall relationship management and international positioning of a university. My experience is both hands-on (designing and delivering recruitment campaigns in Europe and Asia) and managerial. My current role is Director of Strategic Partnerships and International Marketing at University of Frankfurt. I serve as a member of DAAD’s marketing advisory board, and as President of DAIA, the German Association for International Educational Exchange (which was modeled along EAIE lines). As a frequent speaker at EAIE, NAFSA and APAIE my particular areas of expertise are low-budget marketing, integrating recruitment and partnerships, and advocating marketing and recruitment in your own institution – arguably the most difficult task of all if your university doesn't charge fees. I would be delighted to join the Expert Community Marketing and Recruitment as a Steering group member.
