James Kennedy

My name is James Kennedy and I am currently working as an Adviser on Internationalisation at the University of Yangon, Myanmar. A member of the EAIE since 2009, I have previously served as a Steering group member for the Expert Community Strategy and Management. I retired from my position as Director of Global Engagement at the University of Warwick (UK) in 2017 and am now returning to where I began my career, supporting education in low income countries. I taught in Laos and Tanzania, and subsequently worked for the British Council managing education development projects in sub-Saharan Africa and the former Soviet Union.  I can contribute greatly to the Expert Community Cooperation for Development Expert thanks to my long experience in the field combined with an appreciation of the complexities facing leading European research-intensive universities working in development collaboration. Embedded in the University of Yangon I also share the perspective of the beneficiaries of development and collaborative research programmes, and the challenges of managing donor and partner expectations with fragile infrastructure, limited resources and heavy regulatory control.  I believe strongly that the EAIE network can contribute significantly to sharing experience and developing solutions, and I would be delighted to serve as a Steering Group member of the Expert Community Cooperation for Development.
