Han Aarts

The first years of this decade have shown overwhelmingly and in all conceivable ways that humankind is facing challenges that, if not addressed adequately, will put decent human existence under threat. It is also clear that this struggle for our joint survival has to be inclusive: we need to work together, around the globe, with partners in developing and poorer parts of the world, which are home to more than half of the global population. And it is obvious that higher education has a great contribution to make. We need to educate academics and professionals for the world of tomorrow, enabling them to work together globally to shape a sustainable human world. To be successful, we have to partner and cooperate around the globe in mutually beneficial ways.

That is the agenda, and Cooperation for Development is the EAIE Expert Community that has to move this theme to centre stage. Hopefully with a lot of support, but there will be some need to push and pull. I, Han Aarts, am committed to doing that, as initiator of this group and with many years of experience in university cooperation for development and within the EAIE. So please vote for me!
