Gabriele Abermann

EHEA Expert, Austria
Gabriele Abermann

My name is Gabriele Abermann and my passion is international education, which I believe to be a major driving force behind ethical behaviour and a barrier against nationalism, racism and anti-democratic tendencies. As international educators, we can make a difference. The EAIE provides and should continue to provide a platform for exchanging expertise and enabling collaboration and learning from peers. As a member of the General Council, I have acted on that belief and would like to continue doing so. My 40 years of teaching at home and abroad, and my experience in international relations, have shaped my views. I am a recently retired professor of English and intercultural communication at Salzburg University of Applied Sciences, and I have served as Director of International Relations, Vice-Rector and Austrian Bologna and European Higher Education Area expert since 2009. My experience as an academic, mentor and adviser, and in university management, has helped me understand the perspectives of various stakeholders. As a trainer and a frequent presenter at EAIE conferences, I believe in the EAIE’s role in advancing responsible internationalisation and its relevance for the quality of higher education.
