Start planning your EAIE Seville 2017 experience

Much like the beautiful, coloured tile walls of our host city, the EAIE Seville 2017 programme is an intricate patchwork of stimulating activities. Here’s the daily breakdown, including new interactive session formats, engaging networking events, and three inspiring keynote speakers. Check out the programme online and start planning your conference experience.
First things first: Conference Conversation Starter
Upon registering for the conference, participants will receive digital access to this year’s Conference Conversation Starter, a series of essays based on the conference theme, ‘A mosaic of cultures’. Prepare for a week of meaningful international exchange by reading through this thought-provoking publication inviting contemplation and a discussion on topics such as inclusive European identity, nationalism and anti-globalisation sentiments. How can these issues shape our ability to nurture and contribute to ‘a mosaic of cultures’? Be ready to share your perspective with fellow participants throughout the conference week.
Heating things up: Tuesday 12 September
Traditionally a pre-conference day, on Tuesday participants can take part in practical, solution-oriented workshops and opportunities to experience local higher education institutions. This year we’re heating things up. In addition to having four ‘Campus Experience’ tours of local universities, we’re offering an ‘Andalusian University Showcase’ of five institutions in the greater region. We’ll also be diving into some of the hottest topics with a brand new session format: campfires. Set in a laid-back environment and simulating the campfire-storytelling time, campfires will provide an open forum for discussion and knowledge sharing on a particular topic. Finally, celebrate the official start of the conference at the Opening Reception on Tuesday night at the beautiful Plaza de España. This is a day earlier than usual so be sure to arrive in time for the largest networking event of the week.
Sharing and networking galore: Wednesday 13 September
Sessions in various formats make up the bulk of Wednesday’s activities. The programme will continue to have interactive features such as polling and the campfire pods will remain available throughout the week for you to spontaneously convene your own session and discuss the most pressing topics in international higher education. The Exhibition also opens Wednesday, with more than 250 exhibition stands ready to connect with you. Oxford Professor Alexander Betts will take centre stage as this year’s Opening Plenary keynote speaker. A World Economic Forum Young Global Leader and named one of 2016’s top 100 global thinkers by Foreign Policy magazine, Alexander will address the role of international higher education institutions in bringing people together in today’s increasingly polarised world. Round out an invigorating day with the opportunity to network with like-minded individuals at the Expert Community networking events.
Mosaics and fiestas: Thursday 14 September
Choose from another selection of sessions on Thursday, followed by an Afternoon Plenary featuring professional communication coach and comedian Adam Field. Let him return you to your childlike ability to connect with others and watch the EAIE’s own mosaic of cultures come together in an interactive celebration of our field’s diversity. Intrigued? Join us to find out. Enjoy an evening filled with more opportunities to network with various Expert Communities and dance the night away overlooking the water and the historic city centre at the EAIE Fiesta.
Wrap up in style: Friday 15 September
Following the last block of sessions, writer and photographer Taiye Selasi will help us close out the week at the Closing Plenary. Her talk about being ‘multi-local’ is sure to resonate with many of us in the EAIE community who feel ‘at home’ in multiple cities and don’t identify with one single place. Say goodbye to everyone you’ve met during the week and wrap up the conference at the Closing Luncheon, with the promise of EAIE Geneva 2018 drifting through the air.
