Facing outward: EAIE Geneva 2018

The Annual EAIE Conference and Exhibition is on the move in 2018 to yet another European city. In today’s political climate, the time is ripe for serious discussions on the values of international higher education and how we can preserve them in the spirit of mutual understanding. The 2018 host city is no stranger to diplomacy and international collaboration, having been the home of the former League of Nations and now the United Nations European Head Quarters. It’s a very symbolic place to have these important discussions and to celebrate the EAIE’s 30th conference and our commitment to driving responsible international higher education.
In 2018, join us for a week of networking with fellow internationalisation professionals, exchanging knowledge and making new contacts at the Annual EAIE Conference and Exhibition in Geneva, Switzerland.
A global and open city
From luxury watches to chocolate shops, Switzerland is known for a great many things including its second largest city, Geneva. Situated around Europe’s largest Alpine lake and with a view of the majestic Mont Blanc, the city is a sight to behold. Above all though, it’s a city with an international spirit. In the ‘world’s smallest metropolis’, multilingualism and cultural diversity abound. More than 200 governmental and nongovernmental organisations, including the United Nations’ European headquarters and the head office of the International Committee of the Red Cross, are based here and the city is known as the ‘Capital of Peace’. It’s a key place for creating and nurturing international forums where diverse groups are brought together through dialogue and mutual understanding. Something tells us the EAIE crowd will fit right in.
Facing outward
Looking beyond ourselves and instead outward at the world are some of the key ingredients to foster global cooperation. Seeking to understand ‘the other’, reaching out to other people and collaborating among higher education institutions will help quell the rise of inward-thinking around the world. The theme of EAIE Geneva 2018 is ‘Facing outward’ and we invite you to embrace this unique opportunity to engage with more than 5200 participants from 85 countries and make connections at over 250 exhibition stands.
The EAIE’s gaze remains outward, with strategic ambitions to strengthen our collaborative community and equip professionals with the inspiration and tools they need to face these challenging political times. We look forward to celebrating our 30th conference in a city that embodies the values of our field and whose history and mountainous landscape reminds us to continue to move upwards and aim for a brighter future.
