On 18 August, His Royal Highness Prince Carlos Hugo of Bourbon-Parma passed away in Barcelona. He is remembered by the EAIE for his dedication and contribution to the internationalisation of European higher education. During his years of service to the Association, Prince Carlos played an active role at EAIE conferences, opening the 14th Annual EAIE Conference in Porto in 2002 and participating in seminars. He also helped the EAIE to strengthen its contacts with the world outside of higher education as Chairman for several years of the EAIE Advisory Board.

In 2008, Prince Carlos Hugo opened the Utrecht Summer School, and led three seminars within the Summer School. He visibly enjoyed the academic debates with his friends at the EAIE and the students in his seminars.

Prince Carlos Hugo was 80 years of age. He will be missed by EAIE members who have met him and seen him in action.
