The purpose of EAIE membership
The EAIE is a member-led organisation which offers individual membership to professionals working in or associated with the stimulation and facilitation of internationalisation in higher education in Europe and beyond. The EAIE anticipates that individuals will use their membership of the organisation as a means of raising the profile of international education within their own organisations, networking with colleagues in Europe and beyond on matters relating to internationalisation in higher education, and enhancing their knowledge and professionalism in the field.
The EAIE does not offer corporate membership to any company or organisation. As a consequence no organisation may legitimately make claims about membership of the EAIE or use claims of EAIE membership for commercial advantage.
The EAIE offers the status of Courtesy Associate to organisations with which the EAIE itself wishes to foster a closer working relationship. Courtesy Associate status is offered by the EAIE to such organisations and may not be unilaterally claimed by organisations. The status of Courtesy Associate is not available to organisations unless an explicit relationship has been established and explicitly agreed. A definitive list of Courtesy Associates is published on the EAIE website.
Illegitimate claims relating to the work of the EAIE
The EAIE does not operate as an accreditation, recognition, or validation body for organisations with commercial or educational interests in the higher education systems of Europe or beyond. No claims may be made by other organisations which imply that the EAIE has accredited, recognised, validated or in any other way reviewed their services.
The EAIE does not endorse the status or activities of any Diploma Mill or other organisation which claims to confer educational credentials. The EAIE condemns the operation of Diploma Mills and other similar organisations as sources of bogus credentials which exploit students and mislead potential employers through the conferment of worthless academic awards.
Misrepresentation of the EAIE and misuse of EAIE membership
The EAIE accepts membership applications from individuals who are willing to operate within the parameters set by the EAIE. Where it can be shown that an individual member misuses membership, makes false statements about membership of the EAIE, illegitimately claims a relationship with the EAIE, or otherwise operates in a manner which breaches the EAIE’s stated parameters, such individuals will have their membership summarily terminated and their annual membership fee returned.
Decisions relating to the revoking of EAIE membership will be made by the Association’s Steering Committee and confirmed by the President and Director. Such decisions will be communicated in writing by the Director to the individuals concerned.
Any organisations which are shown to make claims for themselves or their associates which are in breach of the Association’s principles as stated above will be subject to legal action taken by the EAIE to preserve its status and public probity.
