Additional site visits on Tuesday 15 September
A number of institutions are organising site visits on Tuesday 15 September. These visits are not part of the conference programme. It is your responsibility to contact the organisers directly and to arrange transportation to these site visits.
Pablo de Olavide University in SevilleTuesday 15 September 08.30–20.15
Pablo de Olavide University, a young public university, is located in Seville, the capital of Andalusia and Spain´s fourth largest city. From Madrid, the journey to Seville takes two and a half hours on the AVE, Spain’s high speed train network. Upon arrival at the train station, guests will be greeted by a University staff member and accompanied to the University.
The day will begin with a tour of the campus and an introduction to the academic programmes. This will be followed by an overview of the activities organised for international students. Guests will then be treated to lunch on campus and those who wish to stay longer will have the opportunity to sit in on a class. These guests will be accompanied back to the train station by a staff member. For others, there will be a walking tour of Seville’s city center before catching the train back to Madrid.

Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE)–Alcalá and Madrid Study CentreTuesday 15 September 09.00–18.30
The Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) is the leading US non-governmental international education organisation. CIEE creates and administers programmes that allow high school and university students and educators to study and teach abroad.
Open House I: CIEE Study Centre in Alcalá (09.05–13.30)
The Universidad de Alcalá was founded in 1499. In 1836, the University transferred to the nearby capital of Madrid, leaving its historic facilities in Alcalá unused until 1977 when the University was re-established there. The
Instituto Universitario de Investigación en Estudios Norteamericanos de la Universidad de Alcalá offers academic programmes in Hispanic Studies for US students. CIEE students can also take courses in three schools at the Universidad de Alcalá: Philosophy and Letters, Economics and Business, and Law.
Open House II: CIEE Study Centre Madrid (14.00–19.00)
The Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, established in 1989, is one of Europe’s pre-eminent public universities with one of the highest percentages of full-time and tenured female faculty members in Spain (42%). The University is home to three schools: Humanities, Social Sciences, and Engineering.The Getafe campus, where CIEE students take classes, has 4000 undergraduate students. This campus is located in the southern metropolitan area, easily accessible by public transportation, approximately 30 minutes by bus and 15 minutes by train from the Atocha train station.

Open House I: CIEE Study Centre in Alcalá
09.05 Take the train from Madrid-Atocha to ALCALÁ DE HENARES (make sure to not get off at Alcalá Universidad train station, but rather at the main station, Alcalá de Henares.) In Atocha, all commuter trains for Alcalá leave from track 3 (Via 3). Look for Tren de Cercanías (Commuter Train Service).
09.28 Arrive at Alcalá de Henares station (NOT Alcalá Universidad). You will be met at the main door of the station by CIEE staff members Cristina and Robyn.
09.45 Visit to the CIEE Office. Overview of Alcalá programme and academics. Visit to University of Alcalá and downtown Alcalá including the historical university buildings of Colegio de Málaga and Colegio de Caracciolos
11.30 Meet with students at the CIEE office – light refreshments will be provided
12.00 Take bus no. 2 (approx. 15 min) to Residencia from Plaza Cervantes. Student tour of the dormitories, cafeteria and computer room
13.00 Return to train station by bus no. 2 (approx. 15 min)

IE University in Madrid and SegoviaTuesday 15 September 09.30–15.45
IE University is a private university located in Segovia, Spain. Created as an extension of the IE Business School model to university education, its core values are global focus, entrepreneurial spirit and a humanistic approach. In 2008 and 2009 IE University launched new bachelor degrees in fields that include Business Administration, Architecture, Tourism Management, Humanities, Biology, Communication and Psychology, all compliant with the European Higher Education Area requirements and taught in English and Spanish.
The main University campus buildings are housed by the former Convent of Santa Cruz la Real, a 13th century building, restored in the 15th century and declared a national heritage site in 1931. The campus is a five-minute walk from the Aqueduct of Segovia, by the river Eresma and just outside the city walls that surround the old quarter of Segovia.
The visit will start in Madrid with a brief tour of IE’s Madrid Campus. Guests will then be transferred to Segovia by bus and will visit the main university campus. The rectoral team will present the IE University project and share thoughts on internationalisation and competitiveness with the participating representatives. The presentation and debate will conclude with a cocktail followed by a brief visit of Segovia and the transfer back to Madrid in the afternoon.
